This week we background the Exponents, one of New Zealand's top bands.
Formed in the early 1980s as the Dance Exponents, the band was put together by Jordan Luck and a group of his school friends in the small South Island town of Geraldine. The band was soon discovered by ex-Enzer Mike Chunn, who signed them to the Mushroom label. The group was an instant success with teenagers who took to Luck's catchy songs like ducks to water, ensuring such hits as the classic "Victoria" and "I'll Say Goodbye." The Dance Exponents continued their run of success till the mid-eighties when they departed New Zealand for the UK. It would take until the early '90s for the band to return to their home country - but when they did it would be to a hero's welcome. Having dropped the "Dance" from their name and with the new hit album, Something Beginning With C in the shops and singles like "Who Loves Who The Most" and "Why Does Love Do This To Me" all over the airwaves, the band was warmly received on their New Zealand tour. Since then the band released two more studio albums, with the latest Better Never Than Late, produced by Eddie Rayner. They also released a top selling greatest hits collection, Once Bitten, Twice Bitten and of course you can be assured of catching them playing somewhere round New Zealand on one of their legendary summer tours. Recently the band returned from a successful UK tour with Greg Johnson, Dead Flowers and Australian band Mental As Anything.
