New Zealand Jazz

Observant readers would have checked out my interview a couple of months ago with Nick Atkinson of Auckland jazz band, Foghorn. And if you were keen enough, you would also have followed the links to funk.co.nz, which just happens to be the band's site and personal homepage of the other Atkinson in the group, Tom.

But that as it may, you may now also wonder what other jazz websites there are out there. Well of course, how could you go wrong with jazz.co.nz which is an awesome site and just happens to be run by Kiwi jazz pianist, Mark de Clive-Lowe.

Nice one Mark! But how do we find out more about his collaborator and legendary saxophonist, Nathan Haines? Well the simple answer I guess is to just visit his site. Round that way I'm sure you'll find all you need to know about Nathan and the London electronic scene. Hang on a minute, but what about fellow Kiwi jazz saxophonist Jason Jones? I mean you may be interested in knowing about him too- after all, he did win Jazz Album of the Year at the recent New Zealand Music Awards....

Well never fear, Jason's got a Website too...! Brilliant! But...Aren't all these jazz musicians from Auckland originally or Auckland based? What about the rest of the country? Well...Wellington jazz is online at jazzworkshop and you can also find links to local bands and the Wellington Jazz Collective.

As for the South Island, well I searched high and low, and found an interview with Christchurch pianist Darren Pickering, at jazz.co.nz, the Christchurch Poly Jazz School page (which by the way is located in a cool looking building if you're ever down that way), and the homepage of sax teacher at the school, Steve Nichols.

Dunedin, well I couldn't find anything specifically jazz related down there, but do check out the Arc Cafe and http://www.fink.net.nz/ for a glimpse of what's happening in the music scene.

Well that's my lot for the Kiwi jazz sites this time round, so happy surfing!
