Gold, Gold, Gold

the easy money had been made, and most moved on to other strikes- it had only taken a year. All that remained were the Chinese miners, who were usually only allowed to move in once the others did not want it. They perceived where others only threw up their hands, and through shear hard teamwork, often managed to make money in the area.

But the lifespan of these instant towns was limited- as limited as the gold in the hills. Strikes in other areas would mean the miners would pack up and shift quickly on, hopeful of one day finding that elusive fortune.

And what was the legacy of the goldrush, and the miners? Perhaps it could be an independent, tough streak, and an ability to 'make do'. What ever it is, you can still walk to paths were the desperate and the hardy once went with such hope, and perhaps hear the echo of gold in the pan.
