The Duke of New York -- An interview with Duke Castiglione

BI: Does a caller ever slip one past you? Catch you in a mistake?

DK: Are you kidding me...all the time! I'm very human. It's an hour show and it's done live...that's what makes it so exciting. Our callers know there stuff and I'm learning new things all the time. When someone calls in, I approach it like I'm at a game or a bar talking to friends; we're just talking sports, sharing opinions.

BI: Do you get tired of guys like me talking sports with you all the time?

DK: I love it. I know this guy who is a weatherman and he hates when people ask him about the weather. I say, 'Buddy, Get another fucking job' then, you know. I love going to the gym and some guy spotting me starts talking Knicks or when my dry cleaner, a diehard Mets fan, asks me what went wrong this year. That's my job. Its also my passion. I love to hear some of the players spill the dirt on other guys. I love getting the inside scoop.

BI: Anything you'd care to share?

DK: Not particularly, no. Actually, there really aren't many huge secrets in sports anymore. I talk to as many inside people as I can....scouts, players, writers, coaches, agents. I do get some stuff that is not public information beforehand but you've got to respect your sources if you want to continue getting that info.

BI: Do you think these guys watch the show?

DK: Oh, I know they do. Visiting teams watch from their hotel rooms. Mr. Steinbrenner told me he watches the show.

BI: One guy who apparently doesn't watch the show is Glen Sather, the Ranger's GM. Callers were absolutely livid about the Lindros deal. Why did he pull that trigger?

DK: It is a terrible trade. Sather missed the boat on the Jagr trade and he felt he had to make a splash to keep the fans interested. They did it to sell tickets and cover the Jagr blunder -- plain and simple.

BI: Ok, now's the time in the interview when you give me your outlandish predictions for the local teams. Remember, this is forever accessible in the suite101.com archives so don't mess up!

DK: Alright, Jets predictions first. I'm very interested in seeing how Jet fans treat Herman Edwards once he losses a game. I liked Al Groh for this team. Yes, he was tough but that's what a football coach
