Want more? Take the subway into Brooklyn to no other than The New York Transit Museum. Housed in a 1930s subway station, this museum displays vintage subway cars, antique turnstiles, a working signal tower, and more. Spanning 100 years of the big Apple's mass transit system, permanent exhibits include vintage subway maps from 1898 to present, architectural drawings, station mosaics, not to mention subway cars which were once experiments. Admission is only $3.00.
It is wonderful that such a vast array of art, history, and culture can be offered to New Yorkers and tourists alike. Whether visiting one of the main institutions on a Pay-What-You-Wish day, or one of the smaller more cost effective ones on any day, it is possible to see what New York has to offer the art and history buff on a budget.
