Addicts, and fanatics, are in denial.

Religion is like a drug to many whom feel empty and long to fill their tanks with the fuel and fire of God. Fanatics get so caught up in the rules and regulations, they ignore what their own inner spirit is trying to tell them. Then they take their blind belief and desperate need to be right to extremes. Fanatics blindly oppose. They blindly kill. They blindly blow up women's health clinics and bomb federal buildings and kill doctors and carry guns right alongside their Holy Bibles. They recite the Ten Commandments, but when the commandments don't suit them, they change the rules. They reinterpret the Law. "Thou shall not kill" becomes "Thou shall not kill anyone but those Jews and blacks, or those queers, or those misguided Buddhist monks and heathen earth-loving pagans."

They play God.

Religious addiction is the deadliest addiction of all. Religious addicts bottom out in the most violent of ways. Murder, suicides, mass shootings, terrorism and bombings. Cults aside, many of today's major religions are made up of people who claim to be working for God, but don't have a clue where God is. They talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. They don't even try. And they cause massive amounts of suffering to the rest of us.

God is not any one religion. God is not religion period. Religion is just one of the many paths to find the connection to our own perception of God and what God is.

"In my father's house are many mansions." I didn't say that. Somebody really cool named Jesus did. Somebody who would be appalled at the behavior committed in his name if he were alive today. Somebody who I hope for his own sake doesn't return anytime soon, or he'll probably be shot on sight by some religious fanatic holding a Bible in one hand, and an Uzi in the other.

Buddha, Krishna, Allah, Jesus, Jehovah, Yahweh, Tao, Vishnu, Atman, Brahman or Mary Lou Badoosky. It doesn't matter what name you give your God, or what name you give your path to God (Badooskyism?)

All roads lead in one direction. Jesus said so. Buddha did, too. So did Muhammad. Even Mary Lou Badoosky got in on the act, in fact, I believe her exact words were "All us little streams end up in the same darned ocean, so please don't pee in my creek!" Until you figure that out, you will always be lost.
