WORK IS A FOUR LETTER WORD - Page 2

Sure, it's important to work and pay your bills, even better if you can find and do work that fulfills you, prospers you, and makes a real contribution to your life and the lives of those around you. When we find our true vocation, and follow our bliss, as Joseph Campbell once said, our lives become more meaningful and rich and joy-filled.

Our time is spent not only contributing and serving, but earning money, usually more than we could ever earn doing something we hated. And, ironically enough, the more we love our job, the more we learn to love our lives outside of our job because we are not filled with the stress, performance anxiety and dissatisfaction that drives most workaholics to keep going until their batteries run down. We want a life that is whole, and that includes our work, but is not exclusive of it.

Work, as satisfying and rewarding as it may be, is not God. A paycheck isn't holy water. And company stock can never take the place of spending time with our spirit, or the people we love and often take for granted. Our jobs and careers add to who we are and how we fit into the outer world. But they don't define us. They don't make us whole.

We were born whole, remember? No halfsies here. We can strive to do our best and make it to the top, as long as we remember that the career climb is only one little jump on the eternal game of Chutes and Ladders.

God is always hiring, pays better than any boss, and the profit sharing is incredible!
