SO NOW WHAT?
The good news is, there are many ways to do this. The bad news is, none of them are easy in this hectic, fast-paced world. Because the inner voice of God is not a screamer, but a whisperer, we are required to get quiet and listen in order to hear it. Yes, I said listen. When's the last time you did that, little monkey? We have kids, dogs, traffic, neighbors, TV, computer hum, pagers, cell phones and a variety of noises and distractions taking away the one thing we truly need to bring God's presence into our consciousness: attention. They say God is in the details, yet how often do we stop to notice the shape of a flower, or the song of a bird in the tree outside our window? If only we could stop the world from spinning so fast! We need to go back to that state of awe and focus we existed in as children, when we looked at everything with wide-eyed wonder, when all things were new. It's so easy to get jaded and say "Well, now that I've seen it all, nothing IS new anymore," but you'd be amazed at how much you've actually been missing once you slow down long enough to notice. It's like buying a red Volvo station wagon, and all of a sudden you notice dozens of red Volvo station wagons out on the road when you thought you had the only one. They've always been there, tooling along in their redness and Volvo-ness and station wagon-ness, you just never PAID ATTENTION! Change your perception, change your life. I forgot who initially said those words of wisdom, so you may credit me with them if you wish. The key then is to find time during the day to make this connection with the Higher Self. A time when all distractions and noises can be left outside the door (don't worry, they'll be there waiting for you). A time when we can turn our attention off the world, and on "the beyond within," as it is called by Jewish Mystics. A time to turn down the volume of our noisy lives, and turn up the volume of the voice deep inside our souls.
