The Power of Surrender

The Power of Surrender

When the obstacles that rise in our path seem insurmountable, and the challenges we face appear beyond our capability, that is when we most need to turn our lives over to a power greater than ourselves. That is when we most need to dig deep within and find the strength to keep on trying, and the faith to keep on believing in our dreams.

Discouragement comes in many forms: a persistent health problem; rejection; a lost or shattered dream; emotional problems such as depression and addiction. No matter the form, it is exhausting to the spirit and draining to the soul. Without help, we feel we are sinking deeper into a smothering well of darkness. Without hope, we figure "What's the use in trying anymore?"

We want to give up. We want to give in. We want to wave the white flag of defeat.

But there is tremendous healing power in that moment of surrender, when our weary spirit feels it has reached its limit, for this is the moment when we are finally able to let go, and let God take over. This is the turning point where we stop trying to force things to happen, and we begin to let them happen naturally, the way our loving Creator intended.

"Be not discouraged," the still, small voice within whispers, "for I am forever by your side." Hearing these words, the mind is renewed, the heart is refreshed, and the rejuvenated spirit takes wing.
