A survey of 200 people over 60 produced these results:
1. Take time to find out what I really wanted to do with my life. I would live my dreams. 2. Take more risks. 3. Lighten up, laugh more. 4. Be more patient. 5. Be more open to others, less prejudice and fear. 6. Live more in the present moment. "Yeah, well, it's too late now," you might think. "I can't turn back time." Perhaps, but as Bonnie Pruden wrote, "You can't turn back the clock. But you can wind it up again." The point of this article is to stimulate you to obstinacy. To recognize that it's not over 'til it's over. Even Grandma Moses was well into her senior years before she began her work as an artist. She achieved amazing notoriety. Notoriety may not be your aim, or goal. Nonetheless, the world needs you now, perhaps more than it ever has. What you have to offer-and you have a lot to offer-is exactly what this planet is looking for. If you think you have done all you can do, completed everything you have been given to do, think again. You have many more people to touch with your gifts and talents. Consider this The Next Semester. I know it sounds like school, but while you are giving, you are also learning. Which in turn will allow you to give even more. At the turn of the 20th Century, the average lifespan in the U.S. was 47 years. Today, for both men and women, it's past 70 years. You have the opportunity to change directions several times; you have the opportunity to spread yourself far and wide. Don't waste all your God-given obstinacy by being complacent, withdrawn, lazy. Stand up. Step out. Let the world see more of your greatness. "Don't leave this world with songs unsung," as Ernie Zelinski writes. I close with a wonderful quote from Kahlil Gibran: "All you have shall someday be given; therefore, give now, that the season of giving may be yours." "Get off your duff and show us your stuff." I made that one up myself! How great you are! Go To Page: 1 2
