Noah: The True SaviorThose of us who grew up Christian have been taught most of our lives that Adam and Eve committed what is known as Original Sin. Some say it was disobedience: they ate from the tree after being told not to. Others believe it was sexual sin: carnal knowledge. No matter. Fact is, God kicked them out of the Garden, to toil and to sweat and to leave Eden and innocence behind. Then, a few thousand years later, we were told that one Jesus Christ came to earth by way of a virgin in order to save us from that Original Sin. He died on the cross, was buried and purportedly rose again to life on the third day. That's why we celebrate Easter. Without a resurrection, Easter is useless; in fact, without the resurrection, Christianity is null and void. The religion hangs on that one event more than any other. But there is something that has been forgotten in the above scenario. And that is, humanity has already paid for its sin. It has already died and resurrected. It should, for all intents and purposes, be free and clear of any guilt, any penalty, any punishment. What? Remember Noah? The Bible says, in Gen. 6:8 that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. God told Noah that the "end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth." He then tells Noah to build the ark and that He will bring a flood to wipe out all flesh, except for the two by two animals that He wants Noah to collect and put into the ark. And Noah obeys. Then God tells Noah to collect his family and take them into the ark and He says to Noah "for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation." Then He sets the rains upon the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. You know the rest. The Flood wipes out all flesh except that which is in the ark. Finally, after some time, the ark comes to rest on dry land and Noah, his family, and all the animals set out to begin the process ALL OVER AGAIN. Here's the rub: if God had been so irritated with the violence and sinfulness of humanity, why did He keep a remnant of the Fallen Species to start it up again? Didn't He know that, as righteous as Noah was, he was still infected with Original Sin? He tells Noah to "be fruitful and multiply." And we have.
