about universal principles, laws, the way the universe is governed. As we work with these laws, true prosperity--deep, inner prosperity as well as material abundance--becomes our reality.
So, what about my old belief system? What do I say now to someone who still insists that humanity ls depraved, guilty, deservlng of death and needs a savior? What do I say when I am confronted with the 'truth' of the Book of Revelation, that the destruction of the world is immanent and that Armageddon is just around the corner? And what do I say to those who insist on the absolute inerrancy of the Bible? Finally, and most importantly, what is my message to those who would be certain that I have sold myself to the devll, that I have lost my salvation, and that God has disappeared from my life? And believe me, I have heard these very words on numerous occasions, not only from evangelicals, but from people new to New Thought, wondering if they, too, have sold out.
My message is simply thls: The only true Power in the universe is Love. Love seeks only to express itself. It holds nothing against anything since it is everything. There is neither anger nor vengeance in Love. Love does not seek praise or adoration. Love holds everything dear and is always trusting. Love asks for no sacrifice and takes no pleasure in the pains of creation. It gives all and expects nothing in return. And it is at the center and perimeter of my being. Love is everything and in it alone I trust. For those of you who doubt this, read I Corinthians 13, the famous Love chapter.
We can honor all paths because we know there is intrinsic value ln each of them, even if we don't always agree wlth all of their teachlngs. And who among us is learned enough to determine whlch path, if any, posesses "ultimate truth"? Surely, not I.
New Thought to me, then, is not just a philosophy; it is a way of llfe. The realization that I am a unique expression of the One Power is the most joyous discovery I have ever made. Knowing that I am free to create my own destiny has opened up a world of new possibilities that in my former state of belief could never have even been considered.
