It's the Holiday Season and one of the most looked for attractions in New Orleans is open.
Featuring a walking and driving tour, "Celebration in the Oaks" has all the sites and sounds one would expect to see and hear during the holiday season. The walking tour takes you through the Botanical Gardens, Story Land, and the Carousel Gardens where you can view Christmas trees decorated by all of the New Orleans area schools. The ornaments are all hand-made and to see what these children have made with ordinary household items is truly amazing. Of course, while walking through the Carousel Gardens, you have to ride the Carousel, one of the oldest existing carousels in the United States. And no trip to City Park is complete with a ride on the train. The driving tour takes you on a two-mile journey through the park where you can view some of the most fantastic light displays. The cost for the walking tour is $3.00 person, children under four and "Friends of City Park" admitted free. The driving tour is $7.00 per car, $10 for RVs, $20 for limousines and shuttle vans, and $45 for buses. Most rides in the Carousel Gardens takes 1 ticket with the exception of the train, roller coaster, and bumper cars, which take 2 tickets. Tickets are $.50 each, 14 for $10, or pay-one-price wristband for $8. "Celebration in the Oaks" runs now through January 2, 2000, 5:30 PM - 10:30 PM. The walking tour will be closed on December 24, 25, and 31. For more information you can call 504-482-4888 or fax 504-483-9412.
