You can also back track the URL, if it's not just a domain. If the URL is www.suite101.com, that is a domain. If a domain is not coming up none of the subpages are there either. But, if you are looking for a subpage try back tracking to the domain. If the URL looks like www.suite101.com/laura/internet/unplugged.htm try cutting it down in stages. First remove the unplugged.htm since you already know that is not coming up. If that gets you nowhere remove the next stage - Internet and so on. One of the subpages may work and then lead you to where the page you want has been moved to.

Should all efforts to track down the site fail you may have to consign it to link rot heaven. That doesn't mean you have to give up on finding what you were looking for. There are other sites which may have some of the same information and content. Of course, this won't help if it was a site with an author's personal writing. But, for information you are likely to find something else somewhere else. Happy hunting.
