There are 23 lilac species. Many varieties of lilacs can be found growing in yards across the state, including the purple lilac (syringa vulgaris), which can also be found growing wild by the side of many country roads across the state. Yet the best lilacs are those sitting in a vase on the kitchen table filling the house with the fragrance of springtime!
