Not far from the Remick Museum stands Ordination Rock. To reach the top of this two-story rock, you have to climb a set of stairs. In 1792, Tamworth's first pastor, Samuel Hidden, was ordained on the rock. A white marble obelisk was erected on top of the rock in the mid 1800s. It's quite a sight.
Tamworth's location is worth mentioning again. If you can't decide whether you want to visit the mountains or the lakes, Tamworth is the place to go because it is within easy visiting distance of both. The charming early 19th century Tamworth Inn makes a great place to use as a jumping-off point for trips to either the White Mountains or the Lakes Region. You will not run out of places to go or things to do!!
Tidbit - Mt. Chocorua, although seen best from Tamworth, is not actually in Tamworth. It is, however, one of the most photographed mountains in the world.
