Going Fishing?

Fisherman's Haven should be one of New Hampshire's nicknames. Mother of Rivers just isn't enough. According to the online New Hampshire Almanac, despite it's small size, New Hampshire is home to "1300 lakes or ponds and 40,000 miles of rivers and streams which provide year round fishing." That's not to mention the deep sea fishing off New Hampshire's coast.

Hold on to your fishing pole and get a life preserver for your mouse. We're going to take a cyber tour of fishing in New Hampshire followed by a sea of links to fishing websites. OK, not exactly a sea, but a lot. After you've clicked your way through this article, if you can't find good fishing in this state, you won't find it anywhere!

Fortunately, the State is serious about fishing. Practically everything you could want to know about fishing in New Hampshire is located at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department fishing page, Fishing in New Hampshire.

A photo of a trophy Northern Pike will greet you when you first arrive. You can click on the link below the picture to see other trophy fish or scroll down to a well organized listing of the topics covered, neatly arranged in a box. Skip around to whatever interests you. This site is well worth some time.

You'll find essential information pages. These include license information, fishing course information, and a listing of handicap accessible fishing sites. Also, if you're planning to fish in New Hampshire, you will want to check out Get the Lead Out, which explains a law that went into effect this year banning lead sinkers weighing 1 ounce or less and jigs less than 1 inch along its longest axis.

On to the fish. Fish Facts describes the fish, the type of water it inhabits, and where that particular body of water is located. This section is interesting to browse because it contains very good sketches of each fish along with the text. Names of the rivers and ponds are listed by region. Or click on a region and find the names of the fishing spots.

Send email to request a free fishing packet that includes:
An out-of-state-license application
Maps, including the new Boating and Fishing Access Map
A 2000 Fishing Forecast
A Welcome to New Hampshire Visitor's Guide
The 2000 Freshwater Fishing Digest of rules and regulations
Click on the box Coming to New Hampshire for the email address and instructions.
