As I mentioned in a previous article (June 28, 2002), folic acid can be a double-edged sword. Although folic acid can have a protective effect against colon cancer, once the cancer is established, the cancer cells use folic acid to promote its own growth and proliferation. Researchers have developed antifolate drugs as treatments against cancer.
