New British Poetry 19: Meister CraftAnd up to the end/ a tender science./ Perhaps things were futile/ but not without weight. But/ what is truly empty,/ that quite clearly is/ always there. What remains/ is that I belong to earth,/ dreadful mother, in/ beloved eyes I go dark,/ belong to the male/ star, a seed of chance/ bought from the/ ether's curiosity. Reading these poems, one cannot be entirely happy - and yet, there is in so many of them a sense that aspects of the world around us deserve to be remembered and cherished, that it is impossible to label Meister as wholly pessimistic. These are powerful, thought-provoking, sometimes difficult poems, which ought to be better known. BETWEEN NOTHING AND NOTHING (ISBN 1-900072-38-6) is available online from www.amazon.co.uk, www.arcpublications.co.uk and elsewhere, or from bookshops world-wide.
