Davidson, writing in a friendly, non-technical style that makes his words as comfortable as an old pair of sneakers, minus the sweaty odor, points out that iin the name of sound economics, the world is destroying resources at an astounding rate.
Davidson believes that "three fallacies of mainstream economics persist and have lulled many people into thinking that we are insulated from the responsibility of being prudent stewards of our natural resource endowment." The author tells how we can overcome the environmental mistakes already made and see that new ones don't occur. In a slender book mercifully free of jargon, Davidson has written one of the most cogent accounts of the neverending battle between the environment and economics. As Davidson puts it, "Changing a way of thinking as deeply entrenched as neoclassical economics . . . appears daunting." The answer (he confesses he doesn't have one) will consist of persistent, pervasive, popular pressure. "A modest start is for you and me to make our case that you can't eat GNP." Go To Page: 1 2
