When Less Becomes More - Page 2

What living lightly is not is a lifestyle of deprivation. Sure it involves a certain level of frugality-the less need there is for money the less time we have to spend making it-but living simply doesn't mean living miserably. If you can't picture yourself giving away all your worldly possessions and retreating barefoot to the wilderness to live off the land, don't worry. While some people are well suited to the more austere lifestyles, we weren't all meant to be mystics or farmers in this lifetime. It's ok to be comfortable and enjoy your surroundings, but it defeats the purpose to make yourself miserable in order to maintain a level of comfort that you are never free to enjoy.

The important thing is to simplify life to a level where we have time to discover the things that truly make us happy. We can then begin to live a life of authenticity-a life in which we can be true to ourselves, pursuing work and pastimes that are more personally satisfying because they are more closely aligned with who we are.
