Everyday Magick: Rituals for Renewal© M. Williams
Spring is traditionally a time of cleansing and renewal, and most of us feel compelled to give our physical surroundings a good once over before the hot weather arrives. The sun is shining, the breeze is fresh and cool through the open window, and we are finally free of the constrictions of winter. It is a natural time of awakening for all of the earth's beings, and we instinctively seek to refresh and renew our physical environment in a flurry of sorting and scrubbing.
To clean your personal space on both the physical and astral levels, you may want to follow or combine your tidying up with a little magickal cleansing. This cleansing doesn't have to be an elaborate or highly ceremonial affair. The most effective rituals are often those that can be accomplished with the greatest ease. Here's an easy, no-bells-and-whistles approach that let's you cleanse while you clean: Choose a bright and warm afternoon when you're free to spend and hour or so on the household chores. Open up all the windows and doors of your home, inviting positive energy to flow through your space. Light a candle or two, and play some inspirational music on the stereo. As you go about your work, visualize the negativity being blown away by the breeze, the shadows being dissolved by the light. You may find yourself moving around more energetically in response to the increased energy flow. Like our dwelling space, our non-physical self can also benefit from an occasional dusting and sweeping. During the course of daily interaction with our environment, we often encounter negative experiences that have a lasting effect on our well being. An argument with a co-worker, for example, can conjure unwanted emotions that last hours, days and sometimes even weeks after the event. This residual negativity clutters up our inner space and can result in our feeling down, less energetic, or in some cases even physically ill.
