Destination: number one, again.Musiq and his professional team of career management at Def Jam Def Soul are set to release his sophomore effort entitled Juslisen (Just Listen) on May 7,2002. Already Juslisen's first release Half Crazy is in heavy rotation around the country. Half-Crazy teases our palates and creates a suspense so thick you could cut it with a knife. It's appeal to every pair of friends who have made the mistake of becoming lovers guarantees this hypnotic groove a place atop the charts. For Musiq junkies worldwide this sophomore fix doesn't seem to be coming fast enough. The addiction first began with the debut of Aijuswannaseingng (I JustWanna Sing)Philly's Prince of Soul took creativity to another level with dramatic vocal intonations, soulful tracks and universal appeal. He spread his creative wings on songs like "143" and "Girl Next Door" all the while incorporating more vocal skill than we have been privy to witness from current Rhythm and Blues Balladeers. The success of Aijuswannaseing shined like a beacon of light over the monotonous cheat and freak one night stand mass produced songs of Rhythm and Blues. These so called artist are guaranteed to be short lived successes but Musiq isn't among the ranks. The realization that this young man has talent spread through the airwaves and the mouths of fans faster than a speeding bullet.
So if you haven't heard Musiq is quite the man! The business man that is. Musiq understands and admits that his business sense needs to be sharpened. He intends to develop a more keen sense of business management to safeguard himself in future endeavors. However, his year to date business effort doesn't fall short of impressive.
Philadelphia's Soul Brother number one has had his creative/professional hands full. Astonishing enough Musiq had managed to write or co-write virtually every song he has ever released. How is that for beginners? His creative reach does not end there. During the time it took to produce the much anticipated Sophomore effort ,Juslisen, Musiq while at Def Jam was behind the scenes.Musiq went the extra mile to ensure his input would be heard and materialized into an album he would be proud to call his own. "I don't ever want to be the type of artist who looks back in a few years and says 'what was I thinking'. I want to stand by everything that I have done. I want to be able to look back and say 'Wow, that song was dope!" Musiq made his presence felt as an incredible songwriter with Juslisen. He even extended himself into the areas of Graphic Design and photography. He says " I had to make sure the cover looked similar to the vision I had in mind." He also assisted in arranging the soon to be released album. He can even tell the order in which each song appears on Juslisen. The business man in Musiq also makes him aware of compromise and its proper place. He professes that its use is a necessary evil and it sometimes takes away from the artform. However, his eye is forever on the bigger picture. The double edged sword of compromise also opens up the longevity factor. Compromise brings change and with the ability to change the possibilities are endless. Musiq the industry businessman is in it for the long haul. He knows what it takes to be and become a star.
