EDITOR'S NOTE:

Amid candle-lit tables and soothing ambiance, South Carolina native Rudy Currence discussed his childhood musical influences, growing up in church, and his musical aspirations over evening dinner. Almost immediately I noticed Rudy's small frame. I wondered to myself, "Where does all that soul come from?" Well, I'm sure you know that good things come in small packages. I guess this is one great example. Read on.

How do you capture the essence of a superstar? Well, simply put if they are worth their merit the album does the work for Rudy. Rudy Currence born Southern gentleman and incredibly gifted is the epitome of the Superstar essence. You know, the "it" factor that seems to be inherent to music legends and legends-in-the-making? It's all over him like white on rice. But, you don't have to take my word for it. The proof is in the album entitled "More Than You'll Ever Know."

Honestly, it has a been a long while since I have had the pleasure of listening to a quality independent release. Indie releases lack quality of sound due to poor production. They fall short of substantial lyrical content and diversity. However, this certainly is not the case with "More Than You'll Ever Know." By the sound of it, earlier musical influences such as the legendary "Motown Sound" and greats such as Lionel Richie, Donnie Hathaway, Sam Cooke, and James Taylor have left their mark on young Rudy. They indirectly made certain that "More Than You'll Ever Know" would be a 13-track morsel of musical confection.

If you close your eyes you can hear the variety of influence through out Rudy's tone, range, falsetto, and over all style of singing. You can hear the elegance of Sam Cooke, the conviction of Marvin Gaye, and the soulful essence of Donnie Hathaway. Needless to say it's no secret how refreshing this young South Carolina native's voice is on today's music scene. Not to mention the fact that he actually has great songs written about things other than the ever popular bump-and-grind.

Rudy Currence's "More Than You'll Ever Know" is one of the most impressive independent releases I have heard in quite a while. The album is a diverse mixture of sounds ranging from pure Soul, to Rock, and Gospel. It eloquently embodies a myriad if moods, sounds, and subject matter. "More Than You'll Ever Know" blends beautifully and the album is guaranteed to have something you like. The more you listen, the more you become addicted. "More Than You'll Ever Know" goes above and beyond expectation with tracks like the Urban hit "Stay Clear." This one satisfies any music lover's appetite for funk, bass, and good ol' Rhythm and Blues. The rock inspired track Super Star is a gem on the album.
