Part II: Model Stitching for Your Local Needlework Shop

Jul 10, 2001 - © Lori J. Seaborg

Gather some of your favorite pieces that you have finished - just 2 or 3 will do - to take to the shop. If you are applying to stitch for a shop that is far away, send them a sample of your best stitching. The sample should be at least 3"x3" and include several examples of the stitches that you can do. Be sure to include a SASE so they will return your sample!

3. Arrive at the shop at the appointed time. You don't have to dress up like this is an interview, but of course you do want to look clean! Don't smell like smoke, or have garden dirt under your nails - you know how those things would turn off any stitcher!

4. When you talk to the LNS owner/manager, be sure that you are both clear about what is involved:

* Are the supplies provided at no cost?

* When is the model expected back at the shop?

* How will I be paid? When?

* Who will keep the model after it is taken down from display?

* Are there any framing costs, if the model was framed for display?

* HAVE THIS WRITTEN DOWN! It is your insurance.

Finally, join this Yahoo! group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modelstitch , which you will find invaluable as you begin model stitching.
