Two of the nation's most prestigious teams will most likely be counting on sophomore quarterbacks to lead them this season.
Florida, meanwhile, will probably be without starter Doug Johnson for the year after a cyst was removed from the Gator quarterback's shoulder. If he misses the season as expected, sophomore Jesse Palmer will head coach Steve Spurrier's potent area attack. Palmer played in six games last season, completing 21 of 38 passes for 291 yards, a trio of touchdowns, and three interceptions. "I still don't really know much about it,'' Palmer told The Orlando Sentinel. ``Whatever happens, it'll be totally business as usual for me. I'm going to prepare like I normally would. I'll be here all summer, getting better and pushing myself to be in the best position to play when summer rolls around.'' "Whenever you're provided with an opportunity to play, there's more motivation, as well as more responsibility in case you're called on. I'll be running and doing everything to get prepared. And from my standpoint, there's a lot of room for improvement." Palmer came in after Johnson was injured in the CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 and completed his only pass attempt of the game - a 37-yard scoring toss to Jacquez Green. Spurrier has told reporters he is concerned about Palmer's weight (6-2, 220 pounds) but has confidence in the youngster's ability.
