SUGAR BOWL: Florida State vs. Virginia Tech -- Of course, any talk of postseason action has to begin with the National Championship game. Both teams enter the game with identical 11-0 records, but there are a number of differences. We've all seen what Weinke, Warrick, and the awesome Seminoles are capable of against tough teams. The Hokies are still somewhat of an untested commodity.
One of two things will happen early -- either the Hokies will come out. stun the Seminoles, and jump out to a big early lead, or Florida State will prove all the Hokies critics right and dominate. Either way, FSU just has too many weapons. Even if they fall behind early, they'll regroup and get the win. As much as I like what the Hokies have done this year, common sense says the Seminoles will win, probably by a good three touchdowns. FIESTA BOWL: Tennessee vs Nebraska -- Nebraska is the third best team in the country. According to ESPN's Mike Gottfried, the Vols are one of the three most talented teams in the country. Talk about a battle of heavyweights. Tennessee brings a team that has changed very little from the national champions of a year ago -- Tee Martin once again leads the offense, but will get help from an awesome running game. The Cornhuskers, on the other hand, have changed considerably even during the course of this season. Eric Crouch is playing great football at quarterback, and Dan Alexander is a load out of the backfield. The option is running like clockwork and the Blackshirts have stepped up. Nobody, and I mean nobody, played better football in the second half of the season than Nebraska. Don't look for a letdown here -- the Huskers have something to prove, and they'll do it. ORANGE BOWL: Michigan vs Alabama -- Call it the Rodney Dangerfield bowl, because neither one of these teams has gotten the respect they deserve in '99. Alabama has had a tough season filed with off-the-field troubles, and all they've managed to do was go 10-2, beat Florida twice, and win the SEC championship. Michigan battled through a midseason letdown and a few tough losses to beat Penn State and Ohio State en route to a BCS berth. Go To Page: 1 2
