Florida State didn't have Peter Warrick on Saturday. They didn't need him.
That left the Seminoles without their top two wide receivers, but that wasn't a problem for quarterback Chris Weinke. Weinke was 23-of-34 for 332 yards and four touchdowns, two of them to receiver Ron Dugans, to lead top-ranked Florida State (6-0) to a 31-21 win over Miami (2-3). Dugans caught a total of five passes on the evening, and the Seminole offense also received a boost from Travis Minor's 146 rushing yards. Germaine Stringer added three catches for 80 yards and a score, and tight end Ryan Sprague also hauled in an 18-yard touchdown. The win was FSU's 27th straight at Doak Campbell Stadium and 44th without a loss. Michigan State 34, Michigan 31 -- Spartan quarterback Bill Burke threw for a school-record 400 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Plaxico Burress caught 10 passes for a school-best 255 yards and a score. And Michigan State improved to 6-0 and established themselves as a Top 10 team by upsetting the in-state rival Wolverines. The Spartans held Michigan to under 200 total yards of offense until the fourth quarter. Tom Brady completed 30-of-41 pass attempts for 285 yards and two touchdowns in the losing effort, keeping Michigan in the game up until the very end by directing three fourth-quarter touchdown drives in relief of Drew Henson. Georgia Tech 31, North Carolina 24 (OT) -- With the pressure on and the Tar Heels leading by a field goal late in the game, Joe Hamilton showed the poise and leadership of a potential Heisman winner. Down 24-21 with just 1:10 remaining, Hamilton, who was 3-for-3 on the drive, and the Yellow Jackets started at their own 2-yard-line and drove 79 yards to set up the game tying field goal try. Freshman Luke Manget booted it through the uprights to force OT. It took the top-rated offense in the country little time to score. Tech needed only four plays, including Hamilton's 6-yard scoring run, to get on the board. The Yellow Jacket defense shut down Carolina, and Georgia Tech escaped with the narrow victory. Hamilton was undoubtedly the star of the show, completing 14 of 26 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 77 yards on 14 carries. Go To Page: 1 2
