The Associated Press is reporting that a new formula for the Bowl Championship Series will be released later this month, and it will most likely include additional computerized rankings to accompany those compiled by The New York Times, Jeff Sagarin, and the Seattle Times.
Although Kramer said that he was basically pleased with how the formula worked last season, he acknowledged that some fans felt frustrated by the complexity of the system. There are no plans to dramatically change the system, however. "I think the last four or five weeks of college football last year, we had as much excitement and interest as we had in many, many years," Kramer added. "We heard one guy on the radio applying the BCS standings to the NFL. That was the ultimate compliment. It certainly enlivened every call-in show in the country. From that standpoint, it worked." Applewhite has appendectomy - University of Texas quarterback Major Applewhite underwent an appendectomy operation on June 6. Applewhite, coming off a record-setting freshman season, is expected to miss three to four weeks of offseason work. He is expected to be ready for the start of fall practice in August. Applewhite first complained of stomach pains to assistant trainer Tom McVan on Saturday. When it persisted, Applewhite checked in to St. David's Hospital, where doctors observed him for most of the evening before performing the surgery shortly after midnight. Go To Page: 1 2
