1999 Recruiting Winners and Losers
Winner - Georgia's class was rated second by Tom Lemming of the Prep Football Report. Among the Bulldogs signees were wide receivers Michael Johnson from Tulsa, Okla., Reggie Brown of Carrollton, Ga., and Durrell Robinson of Duncan, S.C.; and Bruce Thornton from LaGrange, Ga., and DeJuan Green from Jacksonville, Fla. Lemming called this the "most athletic class in the country." Best of the Rest
- UCLA managed to snag five Parade All-Americans - tight end Mike Seidman of Westlake, Calif., linebacker Marcus Reese of San Jose, Calif., quarterback J.P. Losman of Venice, Calif., and offensive linemen Bryce Bohlander of Salem, Ore., and Shane Lehmann of Corona, Calif.
- In an attempt to keep up with the Longhorns, Texas A&M managed to ink some of the nation's top players, including defensive linemen Ty Warren of Bryan, Texas, and Brian West of West Monroe, La.; and linebacker Jason LeDoux of West Monroe, La. The Aggies also signed running back Joe Weber of San Bernardino, Calif., whom the Associated Press named as one of the top runners on the West Coast.
- Alabama quietly had a good offseason as well, signing Beard, wide receiver Antonio Carter of Tallahassee, Fla., linebacker Saleem Rasheed of Birmingham, Ala., and defensive lineman Kenny King, Daphne, Ala.
- Miami not only signed tailback Jarrett Payton, the son of Chicago Bears' Hall of Famer Walter Payton, but added a pair of Parade All-Americans to their list of signees - offensive linemen Vernon Carey and wide receiver Andre Johnson.
