Ricky Who? Shay Leads South to Senior Bowl WinBrian Shay showed he could play with the big boys this weekend, as the running back from tiny Division II Emporia State, rushed for 75 yards and gained 123 total yards to lead the South to a 31-21 victory in the 50th annual Senior Bowl. "I know it is going to be an uphill battle everywhere I go. Some people will look at today and and say `Wow, maybe he is pretty good,' others will just keep on doubting me," Shay told reporters after the game. "We get chosen to be here for a reason. I knew I belonged here and I just had to wait for my chance to show it." "I'll tell you, he had a great week of practice and he showed it today on the field," added South coach Tony Dungy. "He proved he can play with this caliber of players, being from the small program he is from." Ohio State quarterback Joe Germaine scored both of the North's touchdowns, running for a 10-yard second quarter score and throwing a 1-yard TD pass to Tai Streets of Michigan in the fourth quarter. Cade McNown, selected the game's most valuable player, was 10-of-12 for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Boston College's Mike Cloud was the North's MVP, rushing for 117 yards on 12 carries, while Nebraska defensive lineman Mike Rucker had four tackles to earn the North's most valuable defensive player award. Southern Methodist defensive back Jacoby Rhinehart, who had four tackles and broke up two passes, was the South's defensive MVP. Williams, Bishop down North in Hula Bowl - Not to be outdone by Shay, Ricky Williams ran 22 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns as the South rolled to a 34-14 victory. Kansas State quarterback Michael Bishop finished 10-for-17 for 197 yards and two TD passes. Quarterback Kevin Daft of Division II California-Davis was named MVP for the North after completing eight of 17 passes for 117 yards and TD. Michigan running back Clarence Williams led the North with 64 yards on nine carries. Brad Scioli, who sacked Bishop for a 17-yard loss in the second quarter, was named defensive player of the game.
