Air Force Rolls to Post-Season Win

Snubbed in the BCS selection process despite an 11-1 record and the WAC Championship, the Falcons of Air Force sent a message to the college football world with a 45-25 Oahu Bowl win over Washington.

"I'm at a loss for words right now," Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry told reporters after the game. "This is a team that people didn't think a whole lot of. People picked us to finish in the middle of our conference. The team got better and better. We lost a total of one game by one point. If this is not a Top 10 team, then I don't know what is."

The Falcons scored three of the first four times they had the ball to take a 22-13 lead at the half and got 16 unanswered points in the third quarter. Utilizing the complex triple-option offense, Air Force gained 232 on the ground and added 267 through the air.

ALOHA BOWL
Colorado converted four of six Ducks turnovers into scores and Ben Kelly took the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown as the Buffalos downed the No. 21 Ducks 51-43 in the Aloha Bowl. Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti set an Aloha Bowl record by throwing four touchdowns in the victory.

The Ducks scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but the rally fell short as the Buffaloes stopped their final drive of the game to preserve the win. Tailback Derien Latimer had three touchdowns for Oregon. Quarterback Akili Smith scored on a 1-yard run and added a pair of second-half scoring passes.

For Colorado, Moschetti was 11 of 23 for 213 yards and the four TD passes. Chiaverini caught three passes for 96 yards and a score and Marcus Stiggers had three receptions for 81 yards and a score. The 94 points scored by both teams breaks the bowl's record of 81 points scored in 1995, and the Buffaloes' 51 points scored by Colorado ties the record for most points by one team held by two other schools.

INSIGHT.COM BOWL
Corby Jones rushed for three touchdowns, while Julian Jones intercepted a pass and blocked a punt for a safety as Missouri survived a late scare from West Virginia to beat the Mountaineers 34-31. Julian also had 10 unassisted tackles and set up a Tiger touchdown with a 39-yard free kick return.

West Virginia's Marc Bulger set game records by completing 34 of 50 pass attempts, gaining a school-record 429 yards and four second-half touchdowns. Bulger's four touchdown passes tied an Insight.com Bowl record. His leading receiver, Sean Foreman, caught an Insight.com record 11 passes for 189 yards. But despite the records and rallying from 21 down, the Mountaineers wound up on the losing end of their eighth consecutive bowl game - tying an NCAA record.
