The Minutemen defense forced seven Georgia Southern turnovers which they converted into 31 points. Six of those turnovers were fumbles, setting a new title-game record. Despite being outgained 462 to 595 on offense, Massachusetts set a championship game record for points. The 98 combined points were the most ever in a Division I-AA championship.

DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP
The Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State got a pair of touchdown passed from Chris Greisen en route to a 24-6 victory over Carson-Newman in the Division II championship. It was the first national title of any kind for the Bearcats, who also became the first team ever to finish the year with a 15-0 record in Division II history.

Greisen tied the Division II record for completions in a game by going 22-of-34 for 211 yards. He hit J.R. Hill from 25-yards out with 10:11 to play in the third quarter to give Northwest Missouri a 24-6 lead. The other scoring pass came in the second quarter, when Griesen found Tony Miles to give the Bearcats an early eight point lead.

The Eagles had 112 yards total offense after the first quarter and finished with only 276. Meanwhile, the Bearcats finished with 346 yards total offense.

DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP
Gary Smeck passed for 307 yards and three touchdowns as Mount Union captured its fourth Division III title in six years with a 44-24 victory over Rowan. The Purple Raiders have won 42 straight games -- the longest active winning streak in the NCAA and five games shy of the record.

Trailing for most of the game, Mount Union took a 31-24 lead at the end of the third quarter by scoring 15 points in less than a minute. Smeck hit Dave Hassey for a 3-yard touchdown, then added a 2-point conversion pass. Then, two plays later, Profs quarterback Gus Ornstein fumbled when blindsided while dropping to pass. Mount Union took over at the 9 and Chuck Moore ran it in on the first shot.

In four Stagg Bowl appearances, the Raiders have outscored their opponents 116-31 in the second half.
