"I sure wish now we hadn't lost that game," Warrick said. "We'd be right where we wanted to be."
Nebraska got an inspired effort from backup quarterback Monte Christo as "The Count" came off the bench to run for 67 yards and a pair of second-half scores. Corby Jones drove the Tigers to the Nebraska 22 with nine seconds left, but tossed an incomplete pass. With four ticks to go, Jones took the snap but was sacked by Eric Johnson for a 12-yard loss to end the game. A&M coach R.C. Slocum used a little trickery, on the other hand. Slocum called for a fake field goal play that gave the Aggies a 14-10 advantage they would not relinquish. On the play, Shane Lechler, a quarterback in high school, threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Campbell. The win snapped the Aggies three-game losing streak to Tech and keeps them on pace for a place in the Big 12 Title Game. MIAMI UPSETS WEST VIRGINIA - Scott Covington hit Daryl Jones with a 3-yard touchdown pass with 1:37 left Saturday to give the Miami Hurricanes a 34-31 win over No. 13 West Virginia. It was Miami's first victory over a ranked team since 1996. Hurricanes running back Edgerrin James scored three touchdowns and had 162 yards on 31 carries in the upset, and caught five passes for 59 yards and a touchdown as well. Miami rolled up 456 total yards of offense. "There has to be something special about this group. God, I'm proud of these kids," Miami coach Butch Davis told reporters. "The offense had one of the finer nights in the four years I've been here." IN OTHER ACTION - The top four were in rare form once again this week. Top-ranked Ohio State defeated Northwestern 36-10.
