It's The Wild Wild West

Okay, last time we took a look at the Eastern Conference and who had a chance to make it to the playoffs. It's wide open in the East with more than a few teams having a shot at advancing. However, the same does not apply in the Wild West. Not even close. I'm mean, sure, I could wax philosophic about the Los Angeles Clippers and how much they did to improve and that maybe they'll win 20 games this season. But it doesn't matter, and I'll tell you why. It will come down to the Lakers and the Blazers. Without a doubt. Any basketball fan who thinks another team has a legitimate shot is...well - wrong. Sorry, but it's true. Western Conference Dallas Mavericks: They'll be tenth or eleventh and playing golf in May. Denver Nuggets: They'll be lucky to be tenth or eleventh. Houston Rockets: Their young, talented, and brash with players like Francis and Mobley. They'll run a hot and cold, and kill you one night and stink the next. I see them making a run at the eight playoff spot, but coming up just a little shy of getting knocked out by the Lakers in the first round. Minnesota Timberwolves: First round of the playoffs? Definitely. Second round? Nah. San Antonio Spurs: With a healthy Tim Duncan this team will always be a threat. He's unstoppable. But what about the 4 other players? And the bench? Those are the questions. Utah Jazz: How much longer does this team have? How many more kicks at the cat, so to speak? As always, they'll win more than they lose, but the Jazz have had their chance at the NBA crown. It just so happened that MJ got in the way. Twice. Vancouver Grizzlies: Ah, the home team. Made lots of improvements in the off-season, but still went 1-7 in the pre-season. Go figure. They might just win more than 23 games this year. We gotta dream, right? Golden State Warriors: Huh? Los Angeles Clippers: This is a different line-up than we're used to, but some things never change. Their goal: to not be the worst. Los Angeles Lakers: What can I say, really. We know the players, we know what they can do. With even more practice at the ol' triangle offence, they'll be dangerous. Shaq will dominate, Kobe will amaze and the other players will do their job a la Armstrong, Perdue, Grant, and all the other Chicago role players that are lucky enough to be wearing a championship ring. I see more celebration in the Lakers' future.
