Mmmmm....ShoesI got basketball jones I got basketball jones I got basketball jones oh baby ooh wee ooh Anybody else? I got it so bad I actually found myself looking forward to the Olympics and the Dream Team's inevitable butt whuppin' of every other country in the world. Scary. Speaking of the American squad, Shareef Abdur Rahim's talent and skill are finally being noticed. After several years of being overlooked by media and fans alike, he was chosen as a replacement for the injured Grant Hill on this year's U.S. Olympic team. I have to say that not much is going on in the world of roundball right now, at least not that the public hears. I'm sure there's lots of conference calls and deals in the making, but that doesn't help me at this moment. One noteworthy event was Tim Duncan deciding to stay with the Spurs for 87 million dollars. Yeah, tough choice. He says they've been the champs before and can do it again. I don't know, that western conference is nasty. With the Lakers and Porland so strong, it'll be tough. Robinson ain't getting any younger and without some effort to snag a quality free agent or two this summer, the Spurs could be a one hit wonder. Since that's basically all I have to say, I thought I would mention one of my favourite topics. And my friends can attest to this: shoes. Yup, shoes. Specifically, all white, low top basketball sneaks because yes, I have a wee bit of an addiction. I've been known to have one pair for indoors and another for outside as well as stockpiling shoes for those lean winter months when all the bball shoes are dark coloured hightops. I just can't wear 'em. Call me crazy, but I swear I play better when I'm feeling good about my footwear, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with any sort of talent or skill. How 'bout you folks out there? Somebody? Anybody? Of course, a quality player could whip my ass in a pair of ski boots so that kind of puts the whole thing in perspective. It's not about what you have on your feet, it's about what you take to the court. Shoes don't make the man (or woman), remember that kids. But they sure help.
