And Then There Were Two...From sixteen teams, only two remain. While the rest of the league is playing golf and watching the television green with envy, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Indiana Pacers are competing for a championship. But only one team gets to raise the banner and wear the rings. Who will it be? Let us walk down the slippery slope of prognostication one last time. When it comes to predictions, it's not like I really know what I'm talking about. Just look at my past picks. Philadelphia to beat the Pacers, Sonics to beat the Jazz. Sure, I had the Lakers all the way, but so did the rest of the world. Let's see - the best record in the off season, a dominant centre named league MVP, one of, if not the, best coaches in the league, and an all star two guard in Kobe Bryant. Combine that with a solid supporting cast of role players and you don't have to be Kresgin to figure out who's probably going to win the whole thing. Not that Indiana doesn't have a chance. They do, it's just kind of slim. But let's get to that later. First we backtrack a bit. How about that game seven between the Blazers and Lakers? What a game. As far as I'm concerned that's what sport is all about. Two teams battling it out for supremacy in a do or die situation. Wow. And I didn't care who won. Well, I did, but not really. I just wanted to see a good game and see the best team win. It must have been crazy for you rabid Blazer and Laker fans out there. I know how you felt. I remember back in '94... (whoa, I've got to take a second and look at what I just wrote. It sounds like I'm tellin' a story to my grandkids or something. I remember the nineties. We had to walk 18 miles to school in our bare feet, and cell phones were the size of a Honda. Ah, the good ol' days. )...when the Sonics were the number one seed and got taken to a first round game five by the eight seed, Denver Nuggets. Well, Seattle lost in overtime and it was total agony. And I could probably forget the whole thing if that highlight of Dikembe Mutombo lying on the court, clutching the ball wouldn't keep popping up in those damned feel good NBA Sports moments. You know the ones. The slow motion, the dramatic music, the shot, the pass, whatever. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest 'cause I feel a lot better now. I think I'll continue.
