Elvis has left the building

sucked. Oh well, I guess we'll never know. Seriously, do we really need another MJ? Wasn't one bad enough for opposing teams? Us humans always want to replace our heros or at least find a suitable substitute. Can't we let the players be themselves? Make their own name? Don't get me wrong. It's not always the fans' fault. The media, advertisers, and the NBA itself are the real guilty parties. In their effort to sell more tickets, newspapers, shoes, hats, keychains, etc... comparisons are like gold. And who better to compare to than #23, whose silhouetted form can be seen on crap across the globe?

Perhaps, since comparisons are inevitable, we should simply wait till a player has at least a couple of seasons under their belt and then examine the situation. Kobe seems to have survived his baptism by fire, but will Vince Carter? Kobe has a proven coach, veteran role players who know their place, and Shaq, the most dominating inside force since Wilt Chamberlain, to rely on. The Toronto Raptors aren't there yet. They may lose Tracy McGrady this summer and then they're left with Carter and a bunch of old guys. Sure Vince will score, but will anybody else? The Bulls weren't THE BULLS, when Jordan didn't have Pippen, Grant, and others to back him up.

Oh and one more thing. I read about this second grader who is supposed to be incredible. He can dunk and has a sweet three point shot. In fact the kid already has more tattoos than Dennis Rodman. Scouts are lining up to be at his game. They say he could be the first ever player to jump to the pros from elementary school. They even say he could be the next... Damn.
