Regular Movement ... Along with the need to be able to move its feet immediately when perceived danger is noticed, the horse's system is designed for constant movement. Movement is something the horse REQUIRES in order to be optimally healthy. Movement affects the entire physiological system of the horse from circulation to hoof mechanism to mental stability. Just as a note to strengthen this statement, each hoof houses a circulatory pump that if not given adequate movement fails to keep the blood pumping thoroughly through the body from hooves up. In the wild the horse travels up to a 20-mile radius daily. This not only helps to keep the horse healthy but ensures food and water for the horse as well as variety of forages.
