makes sense. Making sure the horse has it all 100% makes sense before
moving onto the next lesson. Think of trying to do calculus without a solid
foundation in general math!!! Well, many times that is what we ask of our
horses. We expect them, because *we* are ready (*vbg* ... maybe) for
calculus, to be ready with us. But if they've not got a firm foundation in
addition and subtraction there isn't a "gadget" in the world that is going
to fill in those holes in the foundation. So, if the human feels drawreins
or martingales, or tiedowns, or sidereins are "necessary" in order to get
the horse to DO ... stepping back to foundations 101 might be a better
answer. Afterall, the horse already KNOWS how to do all that we are asking
... we just need to be able to figure out how to fit in with the horse's
knowledge and correctly ask for the desired behavior - starting at step #1.
