It's that time of year again, in North America, when the trees begin to bud and the Daffodils go into bloom. It's also the time when Natural Clinicians begin their seasonal treks across the nation to teach and help students of Natural Horsemanship. Masters like John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Ray Hunt, Mark Rashid and others can be found in round pens all over America sharing their knowledge and wisdom in working with horses. Those of us who follow the philosophy of "Horsus keepus brokus" have been saving our pennies for months and months in order to just be in the presence of one of these horsemen for a weekend to hear his or her teaching. Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to actually take a horse or two with us to participate in a clinic. The expenses involved are priceless when compared to the vast and expert knowledge which we take back home with us. Contrary to some beliefs, not all natural horsemen are alike. But, there are valuable lessons to be learned from each clinician. One can never learn enough about horses.
Each horse is so unique from another, one "method" may work with one horse in the barn yet be totally lost on another. There are a few basic horsemanship methods which may have different labels but are really all the same basic idea. Roundpenning is one; Bonding, Hook-up, Join up, and Connections are all basically the same thing with different packaging. Using body language to communicate with a horse is the same no matter what part of the country or world one is from; some horsemen have a name for this body language ... others just call it as it is - euine body language, a language which has no geographical boundaries. The following is a brief listing of some of the more well-known Natural Horsemen's schedules. Plan now to get your horse or at least, yourself, to one of these clinics this year.
