Mother's Day Special
This article is a tribute to my mother. Several of the tips came from her. She was an incredibly resourceful woman. Even through the worst of times, she dressed her children with clothes which rivalled those of rich people, because she knew how to recycle old hand-me-downs. She was a great seamstress. Everything she touched turned to gold. She may not have been rich financially, but she made up for it in friendships and in the love which lives on in her children. I admired her more than any other human being I have ever met.
Reason for This Article
All my life I have been aware of tips and shortcuts to natural health which I use daily which no one else seem to know about. Some of them are my own invention, but others have been handed down to me by family and friends. Many of them appear in my articles, but others are simply passed on to friends orally, in emails, or in discussion postings all over the Internet. I finally decided to collect some of them in this article, and I expect that there will be additions to it as I think of more items to add, or maybe I will just start another article on the subject.
Household Tips
A dirty bottle can be cleaned without chemicals easily. Keep some coarse sand handy or pebbles to pour into the bottle along with water. Put on the lid and shake vigorously. Certainly environmentally friendly, and I bet that people have used this trick for as long as they have used glass bottles or vases. This was my mother's normal method of cleaning bottles and I use it daily.
When I was eight years old, I learned my brother's method of snuffing our a candle without wasting any part of the wick. Pinch the flame between your thumb and forefinger quickly. It avoids the afterburn which happens when you blow out the candle. I have always been terribly afraid of fire because of what I have witnessed in World War II air raids, but this trick does not hurt at all, and I know why. The wick does not burn and it is therefore not hot to the touch. What is burning is the evaporated wax which surrounds the wick. That is why the flame extends well above the wick.
