Unnatural Health

Sep 4, 2001 - © Traute Klein, biogardener

Reactive health care is unnatural. It relieves one disease symptom while causing another one. Proactive health works at establishing good health, and a healthy body is able to withstand diseases. We have all seen the headlines about medications causing diseases. Here are some examples taken from DrKoop.com:
  • Thyroid cancer drug causes breast cancer
  • Pain medication to get new warning label
  • Dangerous medicine (growth hormone) I used to wonder whether I should be taking estrogen to prevent osteoporosis. Well, I am no longer wondering. In a health clinic workshop earlier this year, I learned that the miracle cure is a mixed blessing. It may decrease the incidence of osteoporosis but it also increases the incidence of breast cancer.

Commercials

I don't watch commercials on TV. I don't even listen to them. One, however, is so funny that I can't help hearing it. First we are told of the benefits of a pharmaceutical. That is followed by a long list of warnings of who should not be taking it. I get the impression that the people who are well enough to take it would have no need to take any medication at all. What is the drug? I have no idea. What is it supposed to cure? I don't know that either, and neither do I care. Who in his right mind would take a drug after listening to all those warnings.

What is unnatural health?

Do I have to give you any more examples? I think we all get the idea.

Reactive Health Care

Many North Americans have grown up in a reactive health care system. They appear to believe that there is a pill for every disease. So they wait for the disease and then take the pill. Unfortunately that pill is likely to cause another disease, and so the game continues.

Proactive Health Care

The longer I live, the more I realize that disease attacks the weakest link. I therefore attempt to keep myself and my family strong spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We don't wait for disease symptoms to think about health care. We practice proactive, natural health every day of our lives. And if disease does strike in spite of proper precautions, we do not attempt to treat the symptoms with pills which will cause other diseases. We go to the root of the problem and nurse the body back to optimum health.

Good News

When my family arrived in Canada, our views on health care were ridiculed by many of our Canadian-born friends and neighbors. I am happy to report that many of them are changing their attitude. More and more of them come to me for help when the medical profession does not have answers for their problems. When I am working in the garden, never a day goes by that someone does not ask me about the herbs which I am growing and what they can do for our health. Some of them return for more information later or they even let me know that they have tried my recommendations. Their beaming faces tell me that the experiment was successful.
