Peak of the Market is a Manitoba produce marketing company which promotes good health of people and the environment everywhere. You, too, can receive their free innovative veggie recipes.

The Little Company That Could

Peak of the Market is a Manitoba marketing company which has gained national recognition for being one of Canada's 50 best managed companies. They were given that distinction three years in a row by the National Post, one of Canada's daily newspapers. Peak of the Market is not just concerned with the financial needs of its members. It promotes the health of Mother Earth by requiring its members to practice environmental responsibility. It also encourages people everywhere to eat a healthy diet by distributing innovative veggie recipes. It helps to feed the hungry by donating produce to Winnipeg Harvest, Manitoba's food bank network. In January 2001, the company donated 50 pounds of fresh produce for every one of the 5,460 new subscriber to its emailed recipe program, many of which were my readers. This year's goal for its March recipe sign-up drive is 10,000 new subscribers. I have received a lot of feedback from my friends who signed up last year and are enjoying the recipes tremendously.

Carrying Coals to Newcastle

In January 2002, Peak of the Market made headlines when they sent several truckloads of seed potatoes to Prince Edward Island, the potato paradise of Canada. The quality of Manitoba potatoes has obviously caught the attention of PEI growers who are concerned about preserving the health of their harvest by introducing new varieties.

Accessibility

I have not met CEO Larry McIntosh in person, but I feel as though I know him. He is highly visible on TV and in the printed media for the good of the company and the causes which the company promotes. He does not mind looking silly, buried in a pile of potatoes or using a carrot as a microphone. He always takes the time to answer my email personally. I am impressed with his New Year's message to recipe subscribers and have his permission to share it with my readers.

Count Your Blessings

Excerpts from Larry's New Year's message:
  • If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
  • If you have money in the bank and in your wallet and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
