Natural Remedies: How to Relieve Earache Pain at Home

Earaches are one of the most common childhood complaints and can plague us all through life. They are also one of the easiest complaints to cure with natural remedies.

 Types of Earaches

  • Inner ear infections may not be painful, but they affect a person’s balance.
  • The middle ear lies behind the eardrum. Infections are extremely painful, and probably need antibiotics. If the infection builds up, the eardrum may rupture to allow the puss to flow out.
  • The most common earache happens in the outer ear. Fortunately, it is also the easiest to cure, because it can be reached from the outside. This is where home remedies are always effective.

Preventing Earaches

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Some common causes of earache are:

  • Wind hitting the ears.
  • Getting chilled, especially while wet.
  • Having water trapped in the outer ear.

And some preventative measures to take:

  • Cover the head so that the wind cannot get into the outer ear.
  • Carry rain gear, an umbrella, and spare shoes whenever possible.
  • To get water out of the outer ear after swimming, stand on the foot on the side with the trapped water and hop.

Natural Remedies

Drop these remedies directly into the ear and add some cotton batten to prevent them from running out.

  • Wonder Oil - a patent medicine registered by a Winnipeg pharmacist. It smells as though it contains eucalyptus oil and menthol. It is generally available in Canadian pharmacies. It also softens hard ear wax. As of 2004, it was manufactured in Winnipeg by Citron Remedies.
  • Vitamin E straight out of a pierced capsule, a very powerful healing agent.
  • Vitamin A straight out of a pierced capsule, a very powerful antidote for any kind of infection. You can substitute a vitamin A+D capsule.
  • Garlic oil straight out of a capsule.
Keep the ear warm with a hot water bottle or near an infrared heat lamp. Infrared lamps are prescribed by German naturopaths to heal injured and inflamed joints and muscles. You can buy inexpensive infrared bulbs and screw them into an ordinary electric socket.
