Collecting Wolves (Continued)

Lansing Wolf Pottery
Greetings,

As I promised you two weeks ago, here are more treasures to add to your collections--whether you collect wolves, pottery or woven goods. Plus, I am adding a new website that is great for research or just spending time browsing, getting ideas, and buying.

Pottery
First, if your collection already consists of mainly pottery, or if you want to start a pottery collection, here is a piece I would love to own. Joe Milo's Southwest Pottery displays this gorgeous piece by artist Doreen Lansing."Black on Rust Wolf Pot" measures approximately 4"x 2¾" and sells for $162.
Lansing is a Navajo who was born in the four corners area. She was sent to Salt lake City to live with a foster family when she was 11. While there, Lansing won awards for her art in both elementary and intermediate schools. Ultimately, she returned to the four corners area and began making pottery while still a child.

Now married and the mother of three children, Lansing explains that she eventually began adding animals to all her pieces because, "in our Traditional ways, animals have prayers, and they are sacred to us...." This piece depicting the wolf is certainly inspirational.

Northern Lights
The final piece under this title is a wonderful Northwest Pendleton Northern Lights Throw reflecting the Northern Lights and friends of the Eagle as they cross an ice floe while following the North Star. Notice the Eagle's friends in the heavens. The throw is 64"x64" and sells for $165.

"the People's Paths!"

Here is the new link I promised, "the People's Paths!". There is a section on the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, a not-for-profit organization "established in 1974 to support the effective protection and ethical promotion of authentic Native American art and material culture."

The site includes paths to music and art through: Gallery's, Gift Shops, Art & Crafts; Craft Suppliers; Books, Tapes, Videos, Greeting Cards;| Specialized: Enterprises, Businesses & Services; Audio & Video Businesses & Services;| Computer Related Services; Wearing Apparel: Clothing, Moccasins; Foods & Bison Products; Pendleton Blankets & Tipis;| Household Products & More; Tobacco Products; Multiple Interest Enterprises; and Aboriginal Business Canada.

I think you will enjoy spending a bit of time here.

New Baby

Now for my exciting news. I finally decided which wolf to adopt, and it wasn't an easy decision. I wanted them all. But I settled on Wahotts, a large gray wolf with dark rimmed yellow eyes which are slanted in his beautiful face. His bio says he has a wary personality and stays at the edge of the pack's activity. That drew me in initially. Then I read that he is devoted to the new pups, often acts as their protector and has unlimited patience with them. I was hooked. It takes about six weeks to get the adoption package, updates, and photos, but as soon as I get more information on Wahotts and other photos, I will share them. Maybe you'll decide you need to adopt a wolf, too.
