The Art of Free Agency

Let's take the Saints this year. More roadbumps than some of the interstates in the deep south, but they go, and predictably, do something asinine: They sign Jeff Blake.

Why? Are they a quarterback away from the Super Bowl? No. Is Jeff Blake good enough to will them to the Super Bowl? No. How old is Jeff Blake? He is 30. Do you think that the Saints would be best suited to break in a young quarterback and take his lumps with the rest of the team? Yes, but since when does logic apply to the Saint's organization? Not to mention they dump Eddie Kennison and sign Jake Reed, who is ten years older than Kennison.

Cosmetic free agent signings annoy me and keep terrible teams terrible. You build with the draft and supplement through Free Agency.

Unless you are Dan Snyder and you can do any damn thing you want to.

The 49ers have a wonderful RB in Garrison Hearst. Unfortunately he was injured and to say that Charlie Garner is not a good RB is to not understand that an O-line creates running yards. ...
