Different backgrounds, same destinationWith many NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers moving to other series, along with drivers switching rides, more than a few seats are empty, looking for someone to fill them. Every year, some teams opt to go with a talented rookie. Among the upcoming 2001 rookie class are David Donohue and Jon Price. Donohue participated in a test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Team Rensi. The rookie will be a teammate of Randy Tolsma in 2001. The driver attempted to get stock car seat time with Rensi in the ARCA Series at Lowes Motor Speedway near Charlotte but suffered an accident early in the race. "With Team Rensi, I'm preparing and their preparing as though we're going to run the full schedule," Donohue said. "We'll start the season and see how far we can go." Donohue experience has come mostly from racing sports cars, more specifically a Dodge Viper. "I'm making the jump from sports cars. It's a big jump," he said. "Fortunately my teammate is Randy Tolsma. He's very confident in his own ability and has no problem sharing information with me." Jon Price of Buffalo, N.Y., will be another driver making his truck series debut in the upcoming season. Price has also been participating in testing at LVMS, testing with owner/driver Rick Ware. Price comes to the truck series after a stint racing a Chevrolet Chevelle at Holland Speedway near Buffalo. "I'm pretty much getting my feet wet," Price said. "We tested last month (Nov.) at Darlington. That was my first time in a truck." Price thinks the Craftsman Truck Series is the right next-step in his racing career. "The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a place where I think I can do well," he said. "It's a good starting point for my future plans."
