Roush Racing has seemed to have a stronghold on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Greg Biffle has the championship pretty much locked up. All he has to do to claim the championship is start the final two races of the season or finish 27th or better Friday night at the O'Reilly 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. In addition Roush rookie sensation Kurt Busch is second in the points going in to the final two races and is without a doubt the top rookie in the series.
The face of Roush Racing will change drastically next year with both Biffle and Busch moving to different series next season, Busch to Winston Cup and Biffle to Busch Grand National. Jack Roush invited four short-track masters to Las Vegas recently to tryout for the chance to fill Roush's void in the truck series. At the end of tryouts Chuck Hossfeld and Nathan Hasseleu were selected to pilot Roush Fords in 2001. "This is the opportunity of a lifetime," said Hasseleu, the 23-year-old RE/MAX Challenge Series driver. "I was just exited to get the invitation for the tryout, but to actually get an offer is unbelievable." Among those looking to accomplish Roush-like performance with a two-truck team in 2001 will be Hendrick Motorsports. Ricky Hendrick will run a full schedule in the truck series in 2001 to compliment two-time Craftsman Truck Series champion Jack Sprague in the Hendrick stable. "Next year, hopefully Jack and I will end up running one-two in the points at the end of the year," said the young Hendrick. "We know Jack can do it--they've done it twice and almost three times--and we're gonna try real hard with their input and ours to make it happen again." Hendrick's 2000 campaign has been split between the truck and Busch series. He finished sixth in his truck debut at the Granger.com 200 at Pikes Peak in May. In five races Hendrick has racked up three top-10s. Go To Page: 1
