I have decided to review the 2002 season and give you guys a look at the drivers who made news in 2002 and a little background on why they did. First person has to be Todd Bodine. After firing Andy Houston, Herzog-Jackson Motorsports hires him from Darlington until the Memphis race. Then he returns three weeks later to the car. Maybe Herzog-Jackson shouldn't have fired him anyway. Second person that made news in 2002 was Greg Biffle. He started the season out very badly by not finishing races, or was lingering in the top 20. Then Biffle went on a hot streak. In a stretch of 20 races he had 18 top 5's and 19 top 10's and 4 wins. Amazing! He then went on to become the 2002 champion. The third person that made some big news in 2002 was the whole #23 team. Car Owner Bill Davis announced that he was going to shut down the team after the July Daytona race due to sponsorship problems. Wimmer got fired up! He started winning race after race after race. He ended up 3rd in the standings and had 4 wins by the end of the season. My fourth and final person that made news big in 2002 was the driving by our rookie class. Both Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter won races this year. Riggs hands down got the ROTY award by simply running all 34 races. Sauter missed 2 events taking him out of the running. But it wasn't only the rookies. Some of our second year drivers like Jamie McMurray was another names that were out there a lot. So was Jack Sprague, and some of our veterans were showing the signs of brightness. Guys like David Green, Jay Sauter, Ron Hornaday, Kevin Lepage, Scott Wimmer (again), and Greg Biffle. I must say, 2002 was in my books the best year in all of NASCAR. We had some drama, some tight moments, some sad moments, and most of all we crowned a new series champion. Hopefully 2003 will be even better than this year. I can promise you one thing for 2003, that is all the latest news, stats and information will be here at Suite101.com Go To Page: 1 2
